escaping to vanuatu

We won a week's trip to Vanuatu a few months back so we're off on another island getaway trip!! Woo hoo!! :)

It's our first time to the Pacific Islands so we're really uber excited!! Ryan's going to while his time away snorkelling while I'm going to get my PADI, something that I've always wanted. It's all part of the prize so I'm essentially getting it for free!! See you all in a week's time!!

#1 bronte beach

#1 bronte beach
Bronte Beach

I've been feeling quite uninspired with my camera since getting back from our holidays. It doesn't help that we were getting the London weather the first few weeks after we got back and I have settle in quite nicely into staying indoors every weekend.
I've been searching for a project to kickstart me into going out with the camera and found 100 Photos which sounds perfect because you can choose a theme or not, if you don't feel like it. A lot of the rest feels very restrictive right now which doesn't really appeal.

The above picture was taken on one of our gloomy days a few weeks back. It wasn't raining and I took the opportunity to get out of the apartment and go on a photo walk. I drove aimlessly and somehow ended up at Bronte Beach. The waves were rough and wild as can be and it was very mesmerising watching them crash into the rocks. You hold your breath every time a huge waves come crashing in and pray for those rock fishermen  that they don't get washed out.

Somehow, it wasn't my day that day as I then proceeded to stab my own palm when I got home cutting an avocado for a snack. Smart move, Joycey. Piece of advice: Never stab an avocado see with a knife to get it out. Use a spoon or something safer! Bah! To my defence, it has always worked every other time!!

So today with a photo three weeks old, I'm starting my 100 Photos. I was hoping to come up with a fantastic sounding theme but I guess not this time. The next 100 maybe...

axis of awesome

We were at the Metro Theatre a few nights ago checking out Axis of Awesome and they were effing brilliant! I didn't even know they were Australian which shows how ignorant I am. I've heard their '4 chord song' somewhere but they were so much more than that. They are really hillarious together too, taking the mickey out of each other the whole time. I loved it!! They were filming their first DVD last night too so we got a preview of a lot of new songs which I'm only realising now after checking out youtube. You have to check them out... they ARE awesome!!

angry birds

I know the new iphone will be launched in July. But I couldn't wait any longer... I have sms-es waiting to be replied too, numbers accumulating left, right and centre in my facebook, emails and bits of papers everywhere and I absolutely refused to refamiliarise myself with sms-ing using a keypad. New phones always have bugs to be fixed so it's probably a wise decision. Any other awesome apps to recommend??

invites madness

I thought the emergency meeting went really well. When we first got engaged, Cherry was really keen on doing our invitations. She went out to the art shop and bought an art book and coloured pencils and doodled away at various designs that she thought we might like. I fell in love with a couple of them so it was a no brainer roping her into helping us out.

Except, I think the novelty's worn off for her. :(

Her deadline was approaching and we have not seen anything from her which was scaring me no end. We had a one month deadline to get the invites out and we have not progressed further than step 1. Without her artwork, we couldn't buy the paper and envelopes or ask for quotes on printing. As you can imagine, I was mighty stressed out.

In a bid to cover all our bases, I started looking into our last resort - buying the invites only to find that almost all of them take 6-8 weeks to get to you!!! Arrrggghhhhh.... we are soooo screwed!!

So I stayed at home and spent every night trying to come up with an invite. If you have no creative skills whatsoever, it is hard! So many different designs, so many fonts to choose from. And then, the insecurities set in. Do they even look good to start with?? I had a gazillion designs ranging from formal traditional to simple and modern. And I didn't know which one to go with! Every other invite out there looked a hundred times more fantabulous than all of mine!! Stress fest!!

We haven't decided on which ones we are going to go with yet but we went out to Newtown on the weekend to look at papers and envelopes. We spent about an hour in there and came out with a few sheets of cardstock which we're going to use to test print the invite designs that we have.

*fingers crossed* that it's all going to work out!!

glorious weekend

We went kayaking on the weekend and it was fun.

The sun came out and shone its hot sunny rays on us, the sky was blue as can be and we saw tonnes of fishies, a pelican and plenty of egrets as we paddled through the waters.

We stopped by a beach and chased blue soldier crabs around and ended the day with a Magnum Gold ice cream each.

iphone crush

A little slow hopping on the bandwagon but my Palm Treo finally died on me during my time away. So I'm on the lookout for a new phone and gosh, it's been soooo long since I looked at phones. They seem to have advanced to some Star Trek-type level of technology or maybe I'm just getting old.

So an iphone is on the wishlist since every one of my friends who has it raves about them and the Angry Bird game has been playing in my head ever since my cousin got hooked on it. And did you know that all iphone users can message each other for free wherever they are in the world?? I didn't even know that!!

And then I'm drooling over the awesome ways that you can pimp out your phone. Those many casings... have you seen those designer ones that I'll never be able to justify buying? Those ones that are in my name. How funny!!

It's just the iphone 4g mindgame now. Do I wait for the new iphone that everyone thinks is coming out in the near future. Or just get the 3gs now. Grrrrr....
