How funny! We finally cracked 30 degrees for summer yesterday before the weather descended back into its gloomy state today. What is going on? Really, I am loving the cooler months. The past few years, our summer has been long periods of sweltering heat accompanied by crippling bushfires that's destroyed families, homes and dreams so I'm relieved that we finally have a summer without all that devastation.
I bumped into an old friend at the shopping centre across from work a couple of weeks back and caught up for lunch with her today. In fact, she was my very first housemate out of university! I can't believe that it's been 6 years since I graduated. We were such wide-eyed innocent kids trotting into the adult world back then. I still remember we were very smitten with the place we were gonna rent but the day we moved in, it somehow lost the flashiness from when we inspected the place. We looked at each other and went, "6 months and we're out!" That was the term of our contract!
It was fantastic seeing her again. The adult world is truly a hard place. The first 3 years after university was an epic adventure. I definitely felt like the world was my oyster and there was nothing that could stop me from achieving what I want in life. The last 3 years though, I had the veil lifted from my eyes and it has been one of tough lessons and disappointments. I don't regret anything that has happened but no longer do I feel invincible like I once did. I am still optimistic that I'll eventually come up on the other side victorious though. That's the cycle of life, isn't it?
