The hubs and I went to watch 1980+ on the long weekend. It is a Chinese play all done in Mandarin. One of my work colleague is involved in the production so that’s how I found out about it and thought it would be something interesting to check out and give a bit of support!
Given that the two of us barely understand Chinese, we (or really more him) struggled through the play trying to read the subtitles as well as watch the play at the same time and then seeing this Caucasian guy in the play speaking perfect Mandarin, tone and all. You know when people used to, or still call you banana coz you’re Asian but you’re not Asian enough? Well, let me tell you, I definitely felt like a right ol’ banana that day!
